Contacts
- Basic air-work.
- Introduction to basic air work, pattern work, course rules and basic maneuvers such as level speed change, approach turn stall, spins, emergency landing pattern, precautionary emergency landing, power-off stall and the turn pattern.
- Focus on knowledge of EPs and procedures.
- Ability to actually fly maneuvers not graded.
Instruments
- Basic knowledge of FLIP, charts, pubs
- Intro to Jet Cards and the DD-175
- Intro to instrument approaches.
Graduation
- All Marines, Air Force and Internationals continue on to Intermediate.
- Navy students have the option of selecting P3’s or going to Intermediate.
NFO Intermediate:
Squadrons
- VT-10 Wildcats

- Remain in same squadron from Primary to Intermediate.

Main Syllabus Events
Instruments
- Higher expectations on basic instrument work.
- Cross-country eligible
Visual Navigation/Low Levels
- Six flights
- Intro to visual navigation (VNAV)
- Intro to making TPC charts, CHUM, etc.
- Intro to the low-level environment (1,000-2,000’)
Formation Flights
- Four flights
- Intro to the board brief.
- Intro to form concepts (Two Flights)
- Positions/Maneuvering/Tail chase/Tactical Maneuvers
- Intro to formation low-level (Two Flights)
- Application of tactical formation maneuvering to the low-level environment.
T-1/T-39 Syllabus
- Ground school for T-1/T-39 Systems
- International students fly the T-39
- Intro to jets
- Intro to the crew mentality
- First-time having NFO Instructors.
- Intro to instrument and low-level flights in the jet.
- Check ride is a combination low-level/instrument hop
Graduation
- All Marines, Air Force and Internationals continue on to VT-86.
- Navy students have the option of selecting E2’s or going to VT-86.
