[edit] With Squadron
Once you have finished ground school you will return to your squadron where you will be assigned an onwing who will be your primary instructor for the initial series of twelve flights called Contact Flights. Often, you will complete the Basic Instruments syllabus in the simulators half way through your contact syllabus. Many squadrons do this to improve student's instrument scan. Before you finish contact you will have to take your written safe for solo exam. After finishing your last contact flight you will have your Solo Checkride also known as your "4390." Upon completion of that flight you may begin Aerobatics, Formations or Radio Instruments. All three must be done but the order varies from squadron to squadron. Your final flights will usually be completed on a Cross Country with an instructor of your choice. At the completion of your training you will be given a final grade call an NSS. Some people feel you should be thinking about your NSS long before you finish your training others feel that you should focus on your training and let the NSS take care of itself.
You will be assigned to one of three primary squadrons at NAS Whiting Field, or one of two at NAS Corpus Christi.
